How to Clean & Maintain Your New Garage Floor

Cleaning & Maintaince is super important for the longevity of your floor.

Please follow these tips to prolong the life of your new garage floor.

1. Let your floors fully cure for at least 48 hours

The amount of time the coating needs to fully cure will vary with temperature, atmospheric conditions and air circulation/ventilation. The minimum is at least 24 HOURS before allowing foot traffic, and at least 48 HOURS before parking your car and returning your garage items.

2. Avoid dragging heavy objects

Refrain from dragging heavy objects across the floor. Though the polyaspartic coating is highly abrasion-resistant, it is not completely impervious to scratching or damage. When returning heavy items (i.e. refrigerators, washers, dryers etc), we highly recommend using a hand truck or furniture dolly to place back items into position to avoid scratching the floor.

3. Always clean up stains

The coating is stain-resistant but NOT stain-proof. Wiping up oil and other stains in a timely manner will help ensure your floor stays looking great. Vinegar with water and paper towels are great for a scuff marks spot clean. Magic Erasers works great as well as new tennis balls. Dawn or Joy soap with scrub brush work with petroleum based spills.

4. Never use harsh chemicals and acids

Do not sure solvent based products like paint thinner to clear spills

5. Watch out for leakage from cars, golf carts, motorcycles and any other vehicles

Battery acid will ruin the polyaspartic coating. If you have an electric golf cart, purchase a Golf Cart Parking Mat to collect any battery acid leaks.

Motorcycles and other vehicles with small batteries often have a vented battery that may occasionally discharge small amounts of acid onto the garage floor. Purchase a motorcycle mat as well as a kickstand puck to avoid the kickstand scratching the floor.

6. Avoid continuous abrasion

A good example of this is placing your motorcycle’s kickstand in the exact same spot every time you park it. The floor coating is highly abrasion resistant but repeated abrasion over a long period of time may wear the floor prematurely.

7. Clean your new garage floor safely

In order to maintain your garage floor, we highly recommend 1-2 cleanings per month. To clean the floor, start by sweeping, vacuuming, or blowing out the garage floor. Then apply onto the entire floor a mixture of Ammonia and water (10% Ammonia and 90% water). Agitate the floor with a soft bristle broom to loosen dirt. Next, use a soft-foam squeegee to pull the water out of the garage — the foam will remove dust, dirt, light stains and debris with it. A flat, stiff rubber squeegee will smear dirt and oil. Foam captures the dirt and oil and pulls it out with the water.

8. DO NOT use detergents or waxes on your floor

Also, never use Simple Green on your floor. It can destroy the coating. It is important that you NEVER use detergents or waxes to clean your garage floor coating. Detergents leave behind a residue on surfaces like the garage floor. Over time, the film will cause your floor to look hazy and dull.
